Most difficult to review are those bands that are "almost there", if you get what i mean.

Trey Brown & Mission Dorado is one of those bands.

I mean, you hear immediately that they stand out. They have the melodies, the right twang, the references.

They even try adding the chorus on all the right places, and succeed at it, but still there's so much more that could have (or could not have) been done with a little more patience.

But patience is a virtue these days, and even more hard to come by. Their second album (the first came 2008) shows the band trying in a more direct way to communicate their musical message. The songwriting has been improved in these ten songs (all written by Trey), the guitars are flowing free, and the bass-player has learned some well needed new licks i think and Trey's voice sounds as distinctive as ever, coming through "clear as a bell, and sound as an engineer", to quote another singer/songwriter... Can i dream of a duet with Bettysoo?

It seems like yesterday. It's stealing all my pain. I like this album and the way it makes me feel, i want to twitter to the whole world that there's hope for the music.
With an air of early Fairport convention mixed with a slight drop of CSN a la 77 sweeping by, the album is lovely mastered by Jim Wilson who took Brad Bells careful mixing all the way, thank you for that, Jim.

A lovely album that will last.
