OK, its not cool but I love Radiohead - OK Computer to be honest, as a rock record its got so much going for it. If I was going to be stuck on an island I'd want a record that had a lot of depth to investigate. OK Computer is really deep in terms of arrangement, lots of intertwining guitar parts. I really admire the amount of range and ambition in it.

I remember when I used to work in a warehouse, years ago and Paranoid Android used to come on when it first came out. Was amazing to hear a record in 7/8 with all those interesting sections in the context of the charts in 1997. It was really something new.

Its not a cheery album and it always feels vaguely christmassy to me, maybe its the sleigh bells on Airbag. The intro to Airbag always had a touch of the Red era King Crimson about it. I like the whole record as one piece but another stand out is Lucky, with a feel closer to John Barry than 90's indie rock. Ambitious indeed.

I thought OK computer would open the doors for lots of other ambitious rock bands but all we got was Coldplay. It didn't happen. Radiohead carried on making interesting records thou, always impressive.

Matt Stevens.

Todays guestpost was written for us by Matt Stevens , a talented musician/composer from London. Matt has just released his third album "Relic", on Spencer Park Music. Inspiring music. Matt also plays the guitar in a band you might know about, they're called "The Fierce And The Dead". Highly recommended!
