There are more than one signs this year, of me getting older and grumpy.
One is that i was just almost considering adding the music of an ex-roadie to a band that i used to love, as one of the ten favorite albums (Bottle rockets ended as an honorable mention)… At some times, i feel like i would like to add only albums in that genre to my playlist.
But then, suddenly arrives a personal message on twitter, and i quickly come down to earth and back to reality, back to the truly sense and meaning of why i'm writing this blog year after year.
I come back to what we all are looking for. An artist has to have something to say.
It's not enough with a nice, "etsy" package, of self pity.
On to the list of 2011.
It has yet again been a very, very good year for quality music, and the amount of time it has taken me to filter this down to this momblog-list, you can not imagine. Go with me muse. Happy holidays.
O.k... so... the most inspiring ones this year among the music i had the priviledge to listen to, was the following albums (top ten):
1) Lay Low - Brostinn Strengur

2. Kate Bush - 50 words for snow
There's only one Kate Bush.
And it's an analog recording!
3. Shona Foster - The moon and you
I played this album so much that i had to order a new copy.

4. D'callaos - El borde donde termina el mar

5. Charles bradley no time for dreaming
The real thing.

6. Criolo - Nó na Orelha
After 23 years as an MC, Kleber Gomes, (Criolo), presents his first album with songs and it's just great!
You can get the album for free at Criolo's webpage
7. Graveyard - Hisingen Blues
They love music. So do i. The best swedish album i listened to this year. On the other hand, i don't like a lot of new swedish music so...

GRAVEYARD - Hisingen Blues by NuclearBlastRecords
8. Ekundayo- Ekundayo
We are not friends of categorizations or genres in this blog as regular readers know, but if this is not one of the best hiphop-albums that came out 2011, i'll considering eating, well, my hat.
This is what music should be about: meetings.
Do not miss this one. There's some really great musicians playing here.
9. Israel Nash Gripka - Barn Doors and Concrete Floors

10. Francois Peglau - The Imminent Failure of Francois PeglauMy review
Honorable mentions:
- Michael Kiwanuka - Home again EP/Tell me a tale EP/I'm getting ready EP
- Out of "competition", because it is really three separate 3-track ep's, but it would have been the outstanding winner if it was a full length album (album is coming in the spring of 2012). I'd say it's probably some of the best debut recordings i've ever heard.
- Lianne La Havas - Lost and found EP
- Daniel Isaiah - High twilight
- Bottle rockets - Not so loud (an acoustic evening with...)
- Matt Stevens - Relic
- Marius Neset - Golden Xplosion (Great jazz. Super saxophonist)

For 2012 i'm (especially) looking forward to the forthcoming albums of Phantom Limb,
and both the full lengths of Lianne La Havas.
and Michael Kiwanuka. Also, i hear that Charlie Wadhams is working on his debut and Caio Bosco has a new recording coming!

please consider helping one of my favourite artists Queen Esther to kickstart the funding of her new album so it finally be released:

p.s: Music for the end of the world, 2012 ?
Gal Costa - Recanto (Magical, foretelling album from a legend & a favourite singer of mine. Genius Caetano Velosos best album in a very long time).
"Ekundayo" means “the joy that came from sorrow”, in yoruba.
